Das neue Jahr bringt nicht nur einen neuen Kurator mit sich, sondern wie an jedem mex Abend auch wieder drei neue besondere Künstler, die mit uns eine Reise in ihre ureigene Welt unternehmen. Einer der Reiseleiter ist Korhan Erel aus der Türkei. Er ist Computermusiker, Improvisator und Sound-Designer mit Wahlheimat Berlin. Ebenso wie Wissenschaftler sich von der Natur inspirieren lassen, integriert Korhan gerne Field Recordings in seine digitale Welt, um Improvisationen, konzeptuelle Klangperformances und auch strukturierte und komponierte Musik zu schaffen, die er bereits in den weitesten Teilen der Welt präsentiert hat.

Ein weiterer Guide wird Brad Henkel aus NYC sein, der vor kurzem mit der Mission junge experimentelle Musik aus den USA nach NRW zu bringen, nach Köln gezogen ist. Glücklicherweise hat er auch seine Trompete und ebenso seine neuen innovativen Techniken mitgebracht, die ihm ermöglichen, Komposition und Improvisation einzigartig zu verbinden.

Der dritte Trip wird für uns von Arma Agharta aus Litauen geleitet. Er führt uns in sein Lo-Fi-Universum als einer der umtriebigsten Künstler seines Landes, in dem er die Grenzen zwischen Klang und Körper in seiner Performance erkundet. Über die Wege von unvorhersehbarem Wahnsinn, ausserirdischer Drone-Mystik und erheblichem Gebrauch der Stimme, führt er uns in eine rituelle, bizarre Show mit Outside Noise und elektroakustischen Experimenten, die ebenfalls bereits in den meisten Teilen der Welt zu sehen waren und bald hier im mex keller zu Gast sind.

The new year at mex offers not only a new curator, but again three new great artists teaming up in the mex cellar to take you away into their very own musical worlds.
One of the tour-guides is Korhan Erel from Turkey and he is a computer musician, improviser and sound designer based in Berlin. Just like scientists he is as well inspired by nature and therefor likes to integrate field recordings in his digital world to built improvisations, conceptual sound performances as well as structured and composed pieces, which he already presented in wide parts of the world.

Another guide this evening will be Brad Henkel from NYC, who recently relocated to Cologne with the mission to bring young experimental music form the US to NRW. Luckily he brought his trumpet too and also his new innovative techniques of combining composition and improvisation, which he is going to present at mex.

Trip number three is led for us by Arma Agharta from Lithuania and introduces us to his Lo-Fi universe as one of his country’s most active artists by exploring the boundaries of sound and body in performance. Taking the routes of unpredictable madness, otherworldly drone-mystics and heavy usage of vocals which lead to a ritualistic, weird show of outsider noise and electroacoustic experiments that were as well presented in most parts of the world and soon will be in the mex cellar.
