Auf die Pauke haut daher das Art-Core Duo Z\u00e9 Bif<\/strong> des Argentiniers Marcelo Aguirre und des mex-Mitgr\u00fcnders Jens Brand. W\u00e4hrend Brand in Anlehnung an japanische Legend\u00e4r-Erotika den Schneewittchen-Mythos und diverse Nacktbilder durch den Video-Rei\u00dfwolf jagt, treibt Aguirre sein Drumset in rasanter Free-Metal-Manier vor sich her. Off-Tempo bestimmt hingegen den 2. Satz ihrer Extremsonate, wo kontemplativ geschwenkte Mikrofone vor schwingenden Becken f\u00fcr ein sonores Raumvergn\u00fcgen sorgen. Sp\u00e4testens danach d\u00fcrften auch Konzeptionalisten und Programmierfetischisten aufhorchen, wenn das technisch durch Meister Sukandar erm\u00f6glichte Miteinander von harten Non-Bob-Drums und urban-abstraktem Video ansteht.<\/p>\nEbenfalls und explizit mit gro\u00dfer Lust am Ger\u00e4usch verkabeln die 4 Herren von HMSS <\/strong>ihre Computer auf offener B\u00fchne zu einem audioproduktiven Netzwerk. Zugriff jedes Solisten auf das Klangmaterial der Anderen, selbstprogrammierte Software-Instrumente und mehrkanalig im Raum austarierte Lautsprecher formen die elektroakustische Improvisation. Ingeni\u00f6s versiert und musikalisch gebildet, versteht es das Quartett aus Plymouth bis Leipzig mit hin- und herflitzenden Nullen und Einsen organisch geschmeidige Klanggebilde zu synthetisieren, die zwischen k\u00f6rnigem Rauschen und hellem Flirren changieren.<\/p>\nDer Ex-Alternativrocker Byungiun Kwon <\/strong>hat am renommierten Amsterdamer STEIM eine ausgebuffte Techno-Kalligraphie zu effektvoller B\u00fchnenreife gebracht. Mit seiner Eigenkonstruktion, einem Kontaktmikrofon-bewehrten Tintenf\u00fcller, beschreibt er unter strenger Videobeobachtung wei\u00dfes Papier mit expressivem Verve. Der Koreaner fesselt unsere Aufmerksamkeit nicht nur mit fl\u00fcchtigen Bildern fl\u00fcssiger Farbstoffe, sondern vor allem mit dem schr\u00e4pig-knackigen Sound handschriftlicher T\u00e4tigkeit. Gut so!<\/span><\/p>\nEs geht gleich ganz konzentriert los. Die Kolumbianerin Claudia Robles<\/strong> versetzt sich, verkabelt mit modernster Technik, in eine Art Trance. Kraft ihrer Gehirnaktivit\u00e4ten steuert sie, per Echtzeit-EEG, mehrere Computer und modifiziert deren Video- und Ton-Rohmaterial. Inmitten des 4-Kanal-Tons und der Projektion sitzend, provoziert sie ein zunehmend intensives Bio-Feedback, bei dem sich das audiovisuelle Geschehen und das Live-Denken der K\u00fcnstlerin immer enger miteinander verzahnen. Die eine oder der andere aus dem Publikum k\u00f6nnte sich am Ende mental, emotional oder imaginativ in Robles Kopf wiederfinden.<\/p>\nIm zweiten Set widmet Lucio Capece<\/strong> seine Konzentration und zirkulierende Atmung dem Saxofon. Er konfrontiert dessen relativ konstanten, granularen Klang mit einem verwunderlichen Zusatzinstrumentarium. Mit diversen Dingen pr\u00e4pariert und bearbeitet, wird die tradierte Spielweise durch Hereinbr\u00fcche des Alltags korrumpiert \u2013 so auch, wenn Capece dem Saxofon-Bl\u00e4ttchen das Stick-Slip eines Geigenbogens angedeihen l\u00e4sst. Der Argentinier gestaltet die Zeit weiterhin durch akzentuierende Pausen – und erf\u00fcllt sie, die Zeit n\u00e4mlich, ebenfalls sehr delikat, auch auf elektronische Weise \u2013 bei mex mit einem weltpremi\u00e4ren Set aus mehrschichtigem Noise.<\/p>\nRecht unelektronisch, aber landschaftlich inspiriert geht es bei N. <\/strong>zu, wenn der Multer-Gitarrist seinem Instrument sagenhaft schwirrende Dauerkl\u00e4nge entlockt. Andere Musiker br\u00e4uchten daf\u00fcr halbe Orchester oder ganz viel Zeit im Studio. N. hingegen verwendet f\u00fcr die Ambient Drones lediglich Gitarre, Verst\u00e4rker und Volumen-Pedale. Mit seinem zurecht ger\u00fchmten On-Off-N.-Style baut er den mal \u00e4therischen, mal tiefdr\u00f6hnenden, stets komplexen Sound durch \u00dcberlagerungen und Feedbacks auf,. Der Dortmunder ist konsequent: kein Backing, kein Editing, alles Live gespielt, aufgenommen und geloopt.<\/p>\n\u00c4hnlich direkt und meditativ bearbeitet Microphonics<\/strong> seine Solidbody Les Paul. Der Gitarrist aus Gourmet-Belgien verzichtet auf Inputs aus der Konserve und verw\u00f6hnt das Publikum bis \u00fcber beide Ohren mit unendlich langsamen Soundscapes und Minimal Ambient. R\u00e4umlich durch 2 Verst\u00e4rker gut aufgestellt, spielt er mit den Gegebenheiten des Ortes und moduliert, nicht zuletzt per E-Bow und Effektpedal, Oberton und Echo. While Jens Brand’s B-video chases the Snow White myth through noirish sex & crime soaked nether regions, Marcelo Aguirre drives his drum set in front of him in frenzied free metal manner \u2013 before both lapse ad hoc into a floating breakdown, where microphones swing contemplatively in front of brass cymbals bathing the room in sonorous spatial pleasure. A programmed unit of hard non-bop-drums and urban-abstract video radiance forms the finale of this fulminant intermedia sonata.<\/p>\nEqually sound-oriented, the 4 men of HMSS<\/strong> wire their computers on stage to form an audio-productive network, where everyone has access to each other’s sound material. With self-programmed software instruments and an array of multi-channel speakers placed throughout the room, the quartet, with membership spanning from Plymouth to Leipzig, improvises ingeniously and adeptly. Smooth soundscapes, composed of zeros and ones flying to and fro, oscillate between granular noise and light shimmer.<\/p>\nThe former alternative rocker Byungjun Kwon<\/strong> has developed a savvy high-tech form of calligraphy ripe for live performance. Under strict video observation, he writes with his contact mic’ed ink pen in an expressive flourish on a sheet of white paper. \n<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\nOhm experimentell <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\nmex <\/strong>may be all grown up now, but it has zero intention of getting old in its ways \u2013 as it should be.<\/p>\nConnected to a real-time EEG, Claudia Robles <\/strong>puts herself, through intense concentration, into a kind of trance. Through the power of her brain activity, she controls several laptops and modifies their raw video and sound material. Sitting amidst the sound and projections, she produces in this manner a kind of bio-feedback loop, within which audio-visual events dovetail with the live thinking of the artist. In the end, we even begin to imagine ourselves as situated in Robles‘ mental space, her head\u2026<\/p>\nLucio Capece<\/strong>\u2019s concentration and circular breathing are dedicated to the saxophone, whose granular layers of sound he corrupts with various additional objects taken from everyday life. He is known to add to the tension by invoking the stick-slip technique, even playing the reed of the saxophone with a violin bow. Accentuated by pauses, he also sculpts time very delicately using electronic means \u2013 at mex this time with a world premiere set of multi-layered noise.<\/p>\nQuite non-electronically, equipped only with guitar, amplifier and volume pedals and inspired by landscapes, Multer guitarist N. <\/strong>elicits sustained whirring sounds from his instrument. By superposition, feedback and his signature on-off N. style, he builds sometimes ethereal, sometimes deeply booming, always complex ambient drones. In doing so the Dortmunder is consistent: no backing, no editing, all live.<\/p>\n<\/em>Similarly direct and meditative, Microphonics <\/strong>manipulates his solid-body Les Paul. The Belgian guitarist renounces all canned material and treats the audience to a fragile feast for the entire ear with slow soundscapes and overtone-rich minimal ambient. Spatially well spread out with two amplifiers, he plays with the walls, with echo, e-bow and effect pedals. Indeed the music even ventures towards melodic exploration, a moist multi-layered sonic birthday cake.
