----

----

DJ goes VJ. Damian Marhulets studied classical oboe. Now he exceeds intermediale borders and shifts musically the meanings of video material coming from Atari paddles. The visuals of these old school, 8-bits computer games are controlled and alienated live by sounds of record. The acoustic suggests apparently (un)suitable contents, and various déjà vus produce a multiple ambiguous tension between abstract and real. Player strategy: Juggle experimentally with form and contents!

Long Throw, a commissioned piece for the legendary Cunningham Dance Company (2007), is based on David Behrmans record production 1969 of the Cage piece „music for Marcel Duchamp“ in 1947. Beside the main instrument piano, violin plays a major role. Substantially however for Behrman is always the interaction between the computer program and the performing – occasionally also virtual – soloists, which shift individually pitch or volume of the tender-vital composition. Technical finesse: Sound sensors.

Nicolas Collins likes to bring selfmade electronics, sound discoveries and manipulated music instruments on stage. Thus, for example, he develops further since 1974 an equipment, which produces space-specific “ragas” from computer-controlled feedbacks. In doing so, fluctuating samples of sounds react to resonance in space, reverberation time and movement of the spectator. At mex he, together with 6 performers, reanimates various dead circuitries. Collins as the leading sound doctor stimulates primarily, when the acting hand is to keep quiet at any time, so that the attained creaking, scraping or cheeping remains stable for a while …

———
